localWallet

localWallet is a product that serves as a digital wallet for stamp cards for local businesses. On localWallet a user can get their cards stamped, receive rewards, manage and create new wallets, explore and add local cards, and see local deals.

Techniques:  Figma, Photoshop

Research

I approached the research of this project by trying to design around a problem statement :

“How can small businesses compete with the app reward / point system to encourage recurring visits and loyalty?”

My solution was to create a platform that local businesses could offer their own rewards in the form of the classic small business loyalty system: a punch card!

Interviews:

I first created a form to gather responses on people’s current experiences with punch cards, small businesses, and chain loyalty app programs. After collecting and synthesizing the data, I found 3 key pain points:

    - Physical punch cards are hard to remember and easy to lose, especially as most people tend to pay with their phones
    - Having to download lots of different apps to get rewards for all your favorite restaurants is tiresome and wastes storage
    - Small businesses don’t have a way to reward regular customers in the way that chains do, but chains lack the personable connection

lo-fi design

I began designing by keeping the idea of a digital wallet intact, wanting it to feel like a small collection of coupons or cards to manage similar to the Apple wallet system.

mid-fi design

I used some responses from user interviews to determine the visual design features to implement in my final designs, as well as layout choices I should use to create an empathetic user experience.

hi-fi design

At the hi-fidelity stage, I fleshed out the system of the product and made sure the visual design and general usability of the product was as effective as possible while maintaining style and creativity.

next steps

I had a lot of fun exercising my design skills to create this product and would like to take the project further by working on branding and marketing materials! I’d also like to conduct more user research to determine what features could be improved or added and act on any pain points in users I may have missed.
